“Livingston Kids Can” is 15th Annual Youth Appreciation Week Theme

The following is a collection of planned events that are underway for Livingston’s Youth Appreciation Week – Monday, May 24th through Monday, May 31st. This week-long event celebrates Livingston’s youth and recognizes their achievements and contributions to our community. Healthy Community Healthy Youth Initiative of Livingston, Inc. (HCHY) will chair this event for the fourth consecutive year.

MONDAY, MAY 24 – Livingston TV Live
7:00 p.m. – To kick off the week-long event there will be a Live LTV Production featuring the kids of Livingston and how “Livingston Kids Can.”

TUESDAY, MAY 25 – A “Livingston Love-In”
4:00-9:00 p.m.  At the Town Center an Outdoor Festival with five bands featuring “Cash-Cash.” Prizes will be awarded to students for Best Hippie and Best Tie-Dye. Local stores, organizations and charities will participate with table displays, giveaways and wares. The event’s theme is Respect, Civility and “Love thy neighbor and love your neighborhood.”

WEDNESDAY, MAY 26

8:00 a.m. VFW Silent Service at Livingston High School (not open to the public)

7:00-8:00 p.m.  The Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities (LACD) Youth Sports Clinic featuring wiffle ball for children with special needs of all ages at the Monmouth Court Community Center (26 Monmouth Court); co-sponsored by the West Essex YMCA

THURSDAY, MAY 27

7:00-7:45 p.m.  Children’s program at the Livingston Library featuring nationally renowned storyteller, LuAnn Adams; pre-registration is required

6:00 p.m. –  “Open Mike Night” for high schoolers at the Gazebo at the Oval – Music & Games Livingston local acts who will entertain. Open Mike Night has been solely coordinated by the student officers, members and advisors of the Livingston High School Community Action Club (CAC). According to the CAC co-presidents Nicole Karpas and Katie Simko, “Open Mike Night” is open to any high school student who lives in Livingston.

FRIDAY, MAY 28
3:30-6:00 p.m.  Livingston Youth and Community Services (LYCS) Peer to Peer Teen Conference at the Senior Community Center (204 Hillside Avenue)
3:00-5:00 p.m. A “Great Mall Mystery Fun Hunt” at the Livingston Mall for children ages 3-13 years with chaperone. Begin your adventure at the center court on the lower level.

6:00-9:00 p.m.  Parent’s Night Out – children ages 3 ½-12 years will participate in supervised  and guided activities at the Senior Community Center while parents go out on the town; pre-registration is required

SATURDAY, MAY 29
10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.  Family Festival Day at the Oval – Some of the events to look for are Obstacle courses, Pony Rides, Petting Zoo, Adopt a Pet, a Performance by Dave Street featuring his highly acclaimed “Clean Communities Program” and many more surprises. Plan a full day of fun at the Oval which will again include the “Classic Car Show.”

4:00-6:00 p.m. “Bike Rodeo” presented by the Livingston Police Department and the Livingston Robotics Club.  Registration is at 3:00 p.m. in the new high school parking lot on Madonna Drive.

8:30-10:00 p.m.  Movie Under the Stars at the Oval – “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”

SUNDAY, MAY 30
7:00 a.m. The “Raise the Circus Tent” event at the Livingston Eisenhower Corporate Campus at the Livingston Circle

2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.  Circus at the Livingston Eisenhower Corporate Campus at the Livingston Circle

MONDAY, MAY 31
9:30 a.m.  Livingston’s Memorial Day Ceremonies at the Oval
10:00 a.m. Memorial Day Parade down Livingston Avenue

1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.  Circus at the Livingston Eisenhower Corporate Campus at the the Livingston Circle
