September 11, 2009 marked the inaugural “September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance” in memory of the tragic events that occurred on September 11, 2001 and the unity and compassion showed by Americans throughout the country.  In observance of this day, the Livingston Public Schools Social Studies Department will be organizing and participating in a district-wide food drive to collect goods to benefit the Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center in Morristown. In addition to the Department participating, student groups such as the Key Club, PB&J Club and Kids Who Care, are also actively engaged.  This food drive will benefit the Center’s new program, “Breakfast To Go.”  Items needed include small boxes of cereal; self-stable 2% milk products (Hershey, Borden, Horizon); fruit cups; and breakfast/granola bars.  Students wishing to participate are encouraged to bring any of the above mentioned items to their social studies class.  For students at the elementary level that do not change classes, any of the mentioned items will be collected in their regular class.  Donations will be collected until October 9th.  If you have any questions, please contact Chris Bickel, K-12 Social Studies Supervisor, at
